Website Tutorial

On this page you will find instructions on how to use, view and interact with HeedGrace.com. Though many features of the website are self-explanatory, others are less obvious. See also the home page for a broad overview of the purpose, mission and values of this site as well as how you can be involved.

Changing Text Size or Colors

Tap or click the gear icon () at the top of the page. The settings panel will expand. Select the size of text you want by tapping or clicking one of the buttons. The browser will remember your choice. The gray reset button () will set it back to the default size. Note that some text sizes will make the main panel too large to fit a narrow window or screen without scrolling side-to-side. Note that changing the text size is not the same as zooming in or out. This site does not inhibit zooming, but it shouldn't be necessary in most cases, and the site will look better at the default zoom level (1:1 or 100%).

In this settings panel, you can also chose a color scheme. The dark mode uses decreased contrast for more comfortable reading in a darker environment. It still uses black text on a lighter background because this is generally easier to read. The target contrast ratio is 7:1. The contrast ratio you experience depends on your screen and its brightness setting. Avoid screen glare and reflections from overhead lights, windows or other light sources.

Tapping the gear icon again closes the settings panel.

Links

Links have dashed lines under them, like this: Home page

They may also have one or more icons after them: ExampleOffsite ExampleNo HTTPSOffsite

This icon (Offsite) indicates that the link will take you away from HeedGrace.com to another website. If you don't want to leave your place, you can open the link in a new tab. (On most mobile devices, long-tap the link to get a menu. On laptop and desktop computers, right-click to get a menu. In some configurations, you can open a link in a new tab directly by holding the shift key while clicking, or clicking the middle button, or clicking left and right buttons simultaneously.)

An open padlock (No HTTPS) indicates that the link does not use HTTPS, probably because the website does not support it (or didn't at the time the link was created). Your internet service provider and other entities can know what sites you visit regardless of whether a website uses HTTPS, but using HTTPS helps protect the privacy of exactly what pages you look at on that site and what information you exchange. HeedGrace.com uses HTTPS for all its content.

Supported Browsers

HeedGrace.com is designed to work on most smartphones, tablets, laptops, and desktop computers made within the last decade or so. But you will need an up-to-date and standards-compliant browser. Even if you are using a relatively old device, you can usually install a modern browser through the app store or software repository it uses or by downloading an executable file from the official website of a trustworthy browser. HeedGrace.com should work with the current version of most browsers based on Mozilla Firefox (e.g. Tor Browser, Firefox Focus), the current version of most browsers based on Chromium (e.g. Google Chrome, Edge, Brave), and an up-to-date version of Safari (whether on macOS or iOS).

Using an outdated browser not only means that some things will not work or display properly, but it often permits bad actors to compromise the security of a system through software flaws that have been discovered and fixed since that browser version was released.

Browser Settings

The default settings of supported browsers will typically work fine to access HeedGrace.com. But for users who customize their configuration for greater security or privacy, here are a few notes:

  • Much of the site will work fine without JavaScript enabled, however certain functions will not work at all and some things may not display as intended if it is disabled.
  • The site does not currently use any cookies. It may in the future, but it will likely never use third-party cookies.
  • But the site does use a very small amount of local storage to store things such as preferred text size.
  • The site does not depend on the Referer header, so this can be turned off.
  • The site does not depend on the Origin header, and currently it uses no cross-site content from servers that do, so this can be turned off.

Thanks for visiting! Do come again.
